Thailand is a place that pleasantly surprised me. The country is a textbook example on how tourism can positively affect a country without taking away from it's culture. It's so connected to the modern world without losing it's uniqueness. I have to admit when I thought of Thailand images of middle-aged Western men looking for love, lady boys and endless cookie-cutter beach resorts popped into my head. The country is oh so much more. I look forward to going back.

Thailand, officially the Kingdom of Thailand, is a country in Southeast Asia, bordering Laos and Cambodia to the east, the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia to the south, and the Andaman Sea and Myanmar to the west. Thailand was also known as Siam, which was the country's official name until May 11, 1949. The word Thai (ไทย) means "freedom" in the Thai language and is also the name of the majority Thai ethnic group.
